BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CENTRE FOR COMPUTING AND INFORMATICS (CCI)
The Centre for Computing and Informatics (CCI) was established in 2007. It was previously known as the Infrastructure & ICT Department. At that time, the Centre’s role encompassed information technology, development, maintenance, and services in electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering. In 2009, the Department was restructured into two (2) main departments: the Department of Information & Communication Technology (JTMK), which focused on ICT, and the Department of Development, Infrastructure and Services (JPIP), which focused on the development and maintenance of the University’s physical buildings, as well as engineering services in electrical, mechanical, civil, architecture, and quantity surveying.
In line with advancements, developments, and the strengthening of the field of information technology, JTMK was rebranded as the Information Technology Centre (PTM) in 2011, and later, in 2016, it became known as the Centre for Computing and Informatics (CCI).
Hang Lekir bin Hang Mansur was one of the five (5) legendary Malay warrior brothers renowned during the 15th-century Malacca Sultanate. He was among the valiant Malay warriors who defended Malacca from both external and internal threats. Beyond his leadership qualities, Hang Lekir was highly skilled in martial arts, courageous, disciplined, possessed high integrity, and upheld his entrusted responsibilities, particularly in safeguarding the peace and security of Malacca alongside his fellow warrior brothers.
In this context, CCI adapts and aspires to embody Hang Lekir as its primary icon and role model in fulfilling entrusted responsibilities with excellence, guided by the principles he upheld. The implementation of the Public Sector Conducive Ecosystem (EKSA) is one example of how dedication and discipline in cultivating EKSA practices have been instilled in every member of CCI.
